Winter Olympics

One of the many perks of living in Seattle...only two hours away from Canada. So of course we had to head up to Vancouver for the Winter Olympics!!
We got up there a bit later than we'd hoped. We lost some time by having to turn back around and go home to get the hockey tickets that someone (I am not mentioning any names) left on the kitchen table.

We got through the border in no time...shocker, I know!

The weather has been strangely warm this Winter, so that made it a weird environment for the Winter Olympics. We even got hot after a bit and had to take off our sweatshirts.
Finding a place to eat there was a complete joke! Like wait times of two hours, crazy! We figured that if we didn't want to wait, we'd have to pony up some extra dough so we dined at Griffins at The Fairmont Hotel. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone. SO not good.
We were cutting it close to game time, so we high tailed it on over to Canada Hockey Place for the Germany vs. Belarus game. Since we were both still hungry, I kept myself entertained by the Zamboni protected our seats while Rob waited in line for some rink food.

Turns out he must have gotten in the German line or something...everything he ordered came with this weird onion-y sauerkraut-y stuff on it. We each took a bite of our stuff and gave it the big toss...right into the bin. Not good either!
Our seats, however, were awesome!! Right up on the ice. Two rows back, to be exact.

Next to us was a huge group of empty seats, which we thought was weird. Turns out, these German guys a few rows back bought out that section in front of them so that they could put a German flag out in front of them. They ended up tying down the ends and waving it madly all throughout the game. It was really funny!!

We also had an older guy sitting behind us dressed up in a Pokeman-esque onsie type thing. I snapped a few shots, but thought it fair to include the one without his face...although the face part was the funniest...there was a mask that pulls down off the hood. I figure since he went out like that, he was looking for some kind of attention, right?

Final score Germany 3, Belarus 5. Good game, good game. The German players were bigger and more aggressive while the Belarus players were smaller but more agile. Made for a great game. There wasn't a lot of fighting, but I guess they save that hype for the NHL.

This would be where our pictures stop because someone...probably the same someone who forgot our tickets...forgot to charge the camera battery, so the rest will just have to be committed to memory.
We saw many more sights, met some great people, fit in some good shopping and much much more, but due to our lack of photographic evidence, you'll just have to take our word for it. ☺

Day of Love

Our Valentine's Day started out with a heart themed breakfast, courtesy of yours truly. It got rave reviews. Naturally.
Jackson even got in on it a little...dogs can eat turkey bacon and heart shaped eggs, right?

Following breakfast we lounged around and watched episode after episode of Millionaire Matchmaker...does anything say 'true love' more?!? We then felt way too casual to follow through with our initial romantic date plans, so we threw on jeans and sweatshirts then headed to trusty ol' Burgermaster for a delightful Valentine's meal, shakes included.

Next up we visited a favorite area pet store to snag some goodies for the furry little loves in our lives. We wrapped the glorious day up with a viewing of Valentine's Day at our local theater. It was better than expected..full of laughs.

So there ya have it...V-Day 2010. Until next year...

Quick Trip up North

We headed up to Vancouver, BC for the weekend to pick up our tickets for the Olympics while there was a short wait, rather than spending hours in line the day of.

Throughout the weekend we:
  • grabbed a tasty dinner where they brought finger bowls with the buffalo wings instead of handi wipes - 1 for Canada, 0 for US
  • saw From Paris with Love (funny!!) at $15 bucks a ticket...eek!!! - that's 1 for Canada, 1 for US
  • had brunch in a quaint, heated, outdoor, covered cafe - 2 for Canada, 1 for US
  • got caught up in the Olympic countdown hype - 3 for Canada, 1 for US
  • enjoyed some lovely Vancouver sites...and their wannabe Space Needle a.k.a. Harbour Centre - 3 for Canada, 2 for US.
  • loved seeing how excited Jackson was to see us come home - 3 for Canada, 3 for us

Looks like a tie!

Lethal Weapons

This weekend one of Rob's colleagues invited us to attended a Combat Hapkido Clinic. We've talked about taking Hapkido lessons for some time, but just never actually did it.

There is a martial arts studio near our home that was hosting a well know Hapkido master for the weekend, so we thought this would be a great opportunity to get started.

It was really fun, and a work out different to anything we have done before. Especially when Rob punched me in the face. Seriously.

The master reminded us that it was a 'training accident' (that stays on the mat and doesn't follow us home), and that I should have been blocking him anyways. True.

Rob was really sorry...although I swear I saw him spit out a chuckle. But so did I. I managed to get it a few good jabs myself too. ☺

We are now toying with the idea of taking the more advanced course on a regular basis...I just don't like the idea of having to wear a gi.

So now we are both I am pretty sore from being thrown on the ground over and over again...but also prepared to fend off a mugging or two. Don't mess with us, we are now lethal!

Snuggie who?

Move on over Snuggie, you're yesterday's news.
The UniLazy is what's happening now!

Yes, it took me a long time, but I finally became a believer in the Snuggie. Now that I've seen the UniLazy, I won't make the same time-wasting mistake again.

I will take one.
In every color.

I definitely draw the line with The Drop though...sew that zipper up!!
Hmm...I wonder if they make them for pets?? ☺

From '09 to '10, Utah style

OK, so I have finally gotten around to posting about our little jaunt down to Utah to celebrate the new year. I flew down to Utah the day after we returned from Canada while Rob responsibly returned to work before joining us at 'Party Central' down in Utah a few days later.

The morning after the big snow (Tuesday AM maybe??) we ventured out into the white mess to have breakfast at Beez Cafe. I was nervous about driving in the snow, so Jordan carefully chauffeured me around.

Originally Rob and I planned to ring in the new year in Park City, but we got frightened off by the idea of driving in all the snow that had fallen up there, so we cancelled that reservation and re-booked at a hotel down in Salt Lake, a land of less snow. But alas, more snow fell all around and we wussed out of our Salt Lake plans as well.
Lucky us, we ended up spending New Year's Eve at the party house with my family making homemade pizzas, playing games and bangin' pot n' pans outside at midnight. It was fantastic...although I had to get my NYE smooch inside, because Rob was too cold to come out and celebrate with us in the snow. I don't know that he'll ever get used to the snow. ☺

After sleeping in, we all celebrated Mom's New Year Day Birthday with a yummy lunch and then an evening of Galactic Bowling...oooooh! It was lots of fun and I almost broke 100. Almost. I think that there was more goofing around and picture taking than actual bowling taking place.

Erika thought our goober car was super cool and wanted to ride along with Rob and I wherever we went, so she also got roped into a grocery stop. It actually turned out to be pretty fun because they had mini shopping carts and she was all business about loading it up. She found a juice that had Hannah Montana on the front of it and just had to get a picture with it!

We spent a lot of time just hanging out at Ryan & Melanie's. It was really nice to just relax with everyone! We sure did miss Jason & Courtney's family though!!
A few noteworthy but picture free highlights include:
  • A double date with Ry & Mel. Dinner at Tepanyaki and saw It's Complicated. SO funny!!
  • Discovering the deliciousness that is Cafe Rio with Tyler. Yum-my. I wish we had them in WA!
  • Playing The Game of Things...thanks for introducing us to it Anne!
  • Melanie and I had a girlie night...dinner and New Moon. Yes, I saw it again. And will probably see it another time or two. ☺
  • Going through some boxes of stuff I left at Mom & Dad's when I moved out. Great finds, I tell ya...old clothes (Oshman's and Dilly Dally shirts), dance pictures (eek!) and a Leonardo DiCaprio poster.
    Good times, good times.

Thrifty must hate me

I've been meaning to post about our UT trip we took after Christmas, but I've just been too lazy busy to get around to it. I will however tell you that it didn't start out on the best of notes.

That bad note being this goober of a car, also known as the Chevy HHR. They were sold out of all the cooler, more appropriate cars, so this silver nerd was mine for the week.
It was dubbed the Loser Mobile by a loved one. At the time I thought it was funny, but now I realize that since I was the driver, maybe they were talking about me. No, that can't be right!
She (yes, I decided it's a girlie) does NOT handle well in the snow. But thanks to my mad snow driving skills, we all made it through unscathed...well mostly. ☺
