Communication. What's that?

Dinner prep last night was a weird time at our house.

~ I wondered why Rob was seasoning the chicken with tabasco and cumin.
~ He wondered why I was making plain white rice.
~ I wondered why he wanted me to add red and green peppers to the green onions I was chopping.
~ He wondered why I was heating up the wok instead of the grill pan.

With all this 'wondering' floating around, neither of us piped up and said anything though...we just kept right on doing what we were doing, all the while thinking the other was bonkers.

Turns out we were on two totally different pages. For what is still an unknown reason, he thought we were making chicken fajitas and I thought we were making orange chicken stir fry.
Needless to say, we didn't really have either of those...it was more of a southwest orange stir fry in a tortilla.
Whatever.

Don't believe everything you read

I've been sick the past few days and thought I would be proactive and change the sheets/pillowcases so as not to pass my icky germs onto Rob.
As I was changing the pillowcases yesterday I noticed that the pillows were machine washable. I always knew there were tags on pillows, I just never took the time to read them. I usually just toss out bed pillows when they have done their time and then purchase new ones. I probably should have done the same with these ones, but I thought I would do a little extra work to make sure that my pillows were germ free.

I read the instructions and followed them to the letter. I'd started the washing machine and headed downstairs. A few minutes later I heard drip - drip - drip and looked up to see the ceiling leaking. I put something under the drip to catch the water and ran upstairs in a panic to see that the washing machine had flooded all over the floor! I turned it off and took off back downstairs to attend to the drips...only to find the ceiling dripping in three more places!!
Luckily Rob got home soon after that and took over for me. Turns out that even though the instructions say that washing two pillows at the same time in a full size washer is acceptable, it really isn't. I think it's safe to say I won't be buying anymore Laura Ashley pillows...those liars. :)

Yes, my pants are on fire

Yeah, I lied a little...so what. I know I said that we were going to make our blog private and then I never did. It wasn't an intentional lie, it was pure laziness on my part. I really just forgot all about it. I haven't posted anything really personal anyways, so unless I decide to do so the blog will stay open. But be forewarned...I am known to change my mind on a whim, so one day I just may feel like making in private. :)
Sorry I cried wolf; it won't happen again. Well not intentionally that is.

Irish Evening

Last night we met up with some new friends at Wilde Rover Irish Pub for some dinner and their weekly trivia night. All teams pay $10 to join and then the winners take home the loot. I LOVE trivia games! Not to brag or anything, but Rob and I are quite the trivia buffs, or so I thought...until last night.

I assumed that it would be all pop culture trivia and maybe some history and sports (Rob's forte), but I was mistaken. It was completely random trivia that covered topics dating back decades before I was born. I was feeling pretty dumb. I did come to the rescue on the round where the teams had to identify a dozen different Hollywood actors from the late 90's. Score for me? I always feel like I am so old, but in social situations I am usually the youngest one around by a few years. After last night I am beginning to think that it shows!

My new office companion

Lately work has been a drag. Part of this has to do with the lack of exciting people in my office. The only co-worker that I really like, as in I would associate with them outside of the office, has been gone for awhile. With so few prospects of a work buddy, I just decided to buy one. Does that make me sound pathetic? Anyways, here is my new buddy...

As I was searching for my new buddy at Petco during my lunch hour, I was looking for a gilled gal with a little flair. When I saw this dear, I thought that 'she' was destined to be named Roxie and live in my office. When I got back to my office and set up camp (a vase with marbles in the bottom) I was told (but not quite convinced) that my sweet Roxie was in fact a he. Now, who has ever heard of a he named Roxie? Not I. Do I change he/she's name, or simply stick with the name Roxie? Remember the movie Bug's Life where there is that ladybug that is a male and gets upset that everyone assumes he is a female just because he is a ladybug? Well I don't want my dear betta fish to go through life feeling that way. I don't know if I should find a new unisex name (sidenote: remember Pat from SNL? Ha, ha!) or change to a more masculine name all together. Oh, the stress! Maybe Petco should not put their male bettas in pink lidded containers and this whole misunderstanding would have never happened to begin with!!

Didn't quite turn out as I had expected

For the past few months I have been trying a high protein, low carb diet. Not diet, I mean 'way of life'. I realized that this would be challenging since my typical day is made up of oatmeal for breakfast, and either pasta or rice for lunch and dinner. But hey, no problem...it can certainly be done...I just have to eat a lot more meat. As it turns out, I don't really like meat that much. It is hard to eat enough meat to fit into the high protein category. The simple solution: protein shakes. Rob drinks them all of the time, so I am sure that I can handle them, right? Um, no! Rob's protein shakes taste horrible! I don't know how he can drink that crap. I had to spend half of an hour just psyching myself up to drink it (the smell would really get to me) and then once I did it took all of my willpower to keep from gagging it back up. Gross, I know...sorry, it's the truth. So I shopped around for the best smelling and tasting protein powder. I did find a decent brand (Designer Whey), but their shake still left something to be desired. That something just happened to be bananas. On a whim I chopped up and froze a banana one night with the intention of throwing a couple frozen chunks in my regular shake in the morning. I got the idea from Jamba Juice. Seriously, how did I not think of it sooner!?! The next morning my protein shake with banana was fantastic! Ever since then I have been adding a few slices of banana to my shakes. Well a few days ago I bought about a dozen bananas and chopped them all up and threw them in a big freezer bag. Up until this point I have only been using a banana or two at a time since I only use about a quarter of a banana per shake. Well when I pulled out my bag of frozen bananas this morning to make my shake, this is what I found...

...a big, frozen lump of banana slices. They were frozen into a huge rock!! I couldn't even manage to break a few chunks off...it was SO hard! I started prying into it with a knife, and the knife broke. Granted it was a plastic knife, but still this thing was hard enough to break a knife. So now I have a hunk of banana in my freezer. I don't want to let it thaw out and get all mushy. I think that I will have to remove it and monitor it's frozen-ness this evening and break the bulge up and then package in smaller, more manageable baggies. Really I thought that it was such a great idea to do it all at once. Well, I learned my lesson! Maybe I should just give up with the bananas all together??

I am just not getting it...

For what seems like forever I have been working on adding a slideshow to this dang site. So now I have finally figured out how to add it, but it is too small! All of the pictures look blotchy (an improvement on some, I am sure). Now I am starting to think that I have gotten in over my head with this! :) Perhaps I will retire for the evening and start up again tomorrow...
