We love U2!

Saturday we finally got to see U2. We bought the tickets last year, but the tour was postponed. Glad it was just postponed and not canceled!

The weather was perfect for an outdoor concert, which isn't always the case in Seattle.

Lenny Kravitz opened for them. I'm a big LK fan, so this was a big bonus for me.

They put on a fantastic concert and played most of my favorite songs.

Those U2 guys...not too shabby.

Roller Derby!!

Saturday night we found ourselves hollerin' in the crowd of the Jet City Rollergirls finals.
The first bout was a bit tame, but the second bout did not disappoint. There were some super aggressive players and a lot more action. It totally made it worth having to drive all the way up to Everett!
There were so many shoves and falls but the only jam that I got video of was a little lame. There are a few girls flying off the track, so it is worth watching.
The very best part of roller derby is the player names. A few of my favs: Terror Faceoff, Ivana Hercha, and Bullinda Chinashop.

Roller Derby, we're big fans.

Hey batter, batter!

We got our Cinco de Mayo on at Safeco Field watching the M's dominate barely win the Rangers.
It was the emptiest game we'd ever seen, but that just meant that we didn't have to sit in parking garage traffic once the game was over.

Apparently we haven't quite mastered the art of smiling for the camera. Contrary to how it looks, we really did enjoy ourselves. Really.

On the ice

We snagged some box seats to a Seattle Thunderbird hockey game on Saturday, and boy was it was an interesting night.
Sure the game was fine and all, but it was the fans who were providing the bulk of the entertainment. Hockey really has a unique group of fans; die hard and very vocal. I think it's the ever flowing supply of beer that makes them so vocal...and fun to watch!
But really, I thought the mini zambonis were the best part. They had cute little eyes on them and everything. Awww.
Rob was getting frustrated with the lack of performance coming from the Seattle side and swore up and down that he, not even being a hockey player, could out play them. I've promised to rent him in hockey skates next time we go ice skating so he can prove himself.
And then I'll blog about it. Stay tuned.

Laughs

Saturday we went and saw Nick Cannon's comedy show at The Parlor.
I wasn't expecting much...I thought he was known for being a kinda-sorta actor, not a comic.
Turns out I was SO wrong. He started out as a comic and it was easily one of the funniest shows we'd been to in a long time.
We realized how important it is to have a real good laugh so we signed on to see the next comic they are hosting as well...Ralphie May!! Can't wait!

Another season down

Last weekend we headed down to Emerald Downs again to close out the racing season. There was rain, mud and luck in the air.
My fav jockey held up his end of things a won me a pretty little pile of money...that will now fund my flight to NYC next month. See, gambling does pay off. Sometimes.
I'm trying to get Rob to go in on a horse. He says no. I'll keep working on him. ☺

Root, root, root for the home team. Even when they lose.

Saturday night we made our way downtown to Safeco Field for the Mariners v. Rangers game. Before the game started we grabbed some munchies on the Outside Corner right before the rain started coming down. The retractable roof is one of the coolest things about Safeco Field. If it were raining, we would not be at the game. We're not that big of Mariners fans!
And apparently we aren't the only ones. This was the emptiest Mariners game we've ever been to. Maybe they aren't doing too well this year?? I don't know...neither of us really follow baseball...we just like to go to the games and people watch.
It just so happen to be Latin America night so everything was said in English and Spanish and a lot of the little ditty things they do on the big screen were Latino. They uniforms we in Spanish too. For all you Spanish illiterates out there, in Spanish the Mariners are Los Marineros. ☺
This was the sole M's score of the entire night. Kinda lame. What happened guys!?!
We then went home where Rob thought it would be funny to feed Jackson left over cotton candy. OK, I thought it was a little funny too. Yeah, we're awesome.
See, we're irresponsible when it comes to pets...we definitely shouldn't be entrusted with kids yet!

It's hip to be a square

Last Saturday we found ourselves wandering through what is normally a beautiful park along the Seattle waterfront. I say normally because this trip it was a little less than lovely. Seattle Hempfest had taken over the park and it was pure chaos, but in the most laid back of ways, of course.
We been to Hempfest once before, you know - just to say we'd gone, but apparently we've turned into complete squares since then. It was really crowded and super smelly (I got a wee bit nauseous and Rob was feeling a tad 'affected' by the surrounding odor) just by walking through the park.
The place was covered in garbage and there was an abundance of parents who thought it a good idea to bring their children. Way to go! It was a good place to people watch though...always a plus.

We snapped a few pictures, did a little bit of walking around/shoving our way through the park, dared to buy and drink some bottled water and then made a beeline back to the safety of our neck of the woods. I can confidently say we've been Hempfest-ed out. For good.

At the races

Saturday afternoon we headed off to the track to catch some races...horse and weiner dog. It also just happened to be one of those rare Seattle days when the sky is clear enough to see Mt. Rainier.
There were about three horse races scheduled before the weiner dog races were to take place, so we got in on that fun too. I have a history of winning big at the horses, but I was too content kicking back in the sun to go place any bets. I'd regretted it after the fact. The horse I had my eye on {named Eyes on my Heart} would have made me some big money. Bummer.

There were three heats of the weiner dog races and each one was funnier than the last. These dogs were hilarious!

In the second race a group of them stalled and then started running back to the person that released them rather than to the person calling them at the other end.
I think that if Jackson would've been in the race he might have been one of them...or that he would have wandered off to smell the flowers {because that's the masculine kind of dog he is} but Rob kept insisting that if Jackson were there he would have cleaned the track with those other dogs.

Next year, I told him. Next year.

Cruisin'

Last night we boarded the Emerald Star for a Chef's Select Dinner Cruise around Lake Washington and Lake Union. It was quite the lovely site, but we hadn't quite mastered the settings on our camera...hence to super fuzzy blurred up pics...
I did finally manage to find the night landscape setting, but sadly by that time there was not much of a landscape to capture because the cruise was ending. Luckily Rob was still around and more than willing to pose for a pic or two...on the right setting. Handsome, isn't he. ☺

It wasn't the best of the dinner cruises we've been on (Argosy is!), but it was a great night weather-wise and we had loads of of fun together (naturally!) and that's all that matters, right?!

Winter Olympics

One of the many perks of living in Seattle...only two hours away from Canada. So of course we had to head up to Vancouver for the Winter Olympics!!
We got up there a bit later than we'd hoped. We lost some time by having to turn back around and go home to get the hockey tickets that someone (I am not mentioning any names) left on the kitchen table.

We got through the border in no time...shocker, I know!

The weather has been strangely warm this Winter, so that made it a weird environment for the Winter Olympics. We even got hot after a bit and had to take off our sweatshirts.
Finding a place to eat there was a complete joke! Like wait times of two hours, crazy! We figured that if we didn't want to wait, we'd have to pony up some extra dough so we dined at Griffins at The Fairmont Hotel. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone. SO not good.
We were cutting it close to game time, so we high tailed it on over to Canada Hockey Place for the Germany vs. Belarus game. Since we were both still hungry, I kept myself entertained by the Zamboni protected our seats while Rob waited in line for some rink food.

Turns out he must have gotten in the German line or something...everything he ordered came with this weird onion-y sauerkraut-y stuff on it. We each took a bite of our stuff and gave it the big toss...right into the bin. Not good either!
Our seats, however, were awesome!! Right up on the ice. Two rows back, to be exact.

Next to us was a huge group of empty seats, which we thought was weird. Turns out, these German guys a few rows back bought out that section in front of them so that they could put a German flag out in front of them. They ended up tying down the ends and waving it madly all throughout the game. It was really funny!!

We also had an older guy sitting behind us dressed up in a Pokeman-esque onsie type thing. I snapped a few shots, but thought it fair to include the one without his face...although the face part was the funniest...there was a mask that pulls down off the hood. I figure since he went out like that, he was looking for some kind of attention, right?

Final score Germany 3, Belarus 5. Good game, good game. The German players were bigger and more aggressive while the Belarus players were smaller but more agile. Made for a great game. There wasn't a lot of fighting, but I guess they save that hype for the NHL.

This would be where our pictures stop because someone...probably the same someone who forgot our tickets...forgot to charge the camera battery, so the rest will just have to be committed to memory.
We saw many more sights, met some great people, fit in some good shopping and much much more, but due to our lack of photographic evidence, you'll just have to take our word for it. ☺

Day of Love

Our Valentine's Day started out with a heart themed breakfast, courtesy of yours truly. It got rave reviews. Naturally.
Jackson even got in on it a little...dogs can eat turkey bacon and heart shaped eggs, right?

Following breakfast we lounged around and watched episode after episode of Millionaire Matchmaker...does anything say 'true love' more?!? We then felt way too casual to follow through with our initial romantic date plans, so we threw on jeans and sweatshirts then headed to trusty ol' Burgermaster for a delightful Valentine's meal, shakes included.

Next up we visited a favorite area pet store to snag some goodies for the furry little loves in our lives. We wrapped the glorious day up with a viewing of Valentine's Day at our local theater. It was better than expected..full of laughs.

So there ya have it...V-Day 2010. Until next year...
