Good in the bad

Me and my bad teeth were lucky enough to have a surprise but necessary visit to an oral surgeon or two.
While it's easier for me to sit home in pain, being ornery and looking swollen, I decided that there are actually a good thing or two that come from the experience...
  • I have awesome insurance that paid for all the visits
  • I get to (or is it have to??) eat ice cream for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the next day or two.
  • Since I'm 'sick' the calories from the ice cream don't count, right?
  • I have a job that is flexible and allows me to work from home
  • I now have time to watch the last five episodes of Grey's Anatomy that my DVR has been saving for me
  • Percocet!

So,the silver lining is turning out to be pretty nice. Back to the couch and my scoop of ice cream!

This week...

My mane got a big chop last night. It makes me a little sad.
My bangs look like they were cut by a right-y kindergartner...with left-y scissors. I am trying to make do. :)
All I keep hearing from people is 'they will grow out soon'.
Thanks.

Oh, and I got walked in on by my boss while taking pictures of my new do.  He laughed at me.  Charming guy he is. :)
On a more positive note...we are heading off to Sin City this weekend to meet up with some friends and family and we are so stinkin' excited!!
Nothing big on the agenda so far...we're crashing at Caesar's and plan to take advantage of the pool.
I am hoping to convince Rob to take me to Phantom, but I am not holding my breath. Apparently, if you've seen it once, there is no reason to go again. I think that's debatable.
Oh, and a Happy Birthday to my bestie (and new neighbor!!!) who turns twenty-something tomorrow!!

Hooked

I’ve been doing the sick thing for the past week. A week of being sick, sounds crappy, right? Wrong. Believe it or not, it has actually almost been enjoyable. Not the sick part, but the staying home from work and watching Ugly Betty part.

I discovered Ugly Betty on day one of being sick and now it’s my new favorite show. I’ve been watching the DVDs so much I have started dreaming about being on the show. Sounds like I ought to cut it out, I know, but it’s so funny, I just can't stay away!

Now that I am back at work I just think that my job is boring compared to all the zaniness that is Betty's job. Sounds like I am jealous, which maybe I am just a little bit.

Backwards

Here I sit, on a lovely Saturday afternoon, at work.

Craziness is ensuing at our house (maintenance workers fixing up after The Leak), and I have loads of homework to do. In order to get a little peace and quiet, I have left home and headed to my office.

Who knew this place could be so quiet and relaxing when it's empty? I just may do this more often.

Plus my boss stopped by for a second and was surprised to see me in...just a workin' away. Sure, I could have corrected him, but what good would that have done?

I smell a raise. :)

Smelly

For the past day or two I have noticed a bit of an odor in my office. After some sniffing around yesterday I couldn't find the culprit, so I just sprayed some body spray to try and mask it and then forgot about it.

I walked in this morning to the stink of all stinks! It was SO bad!! After pulling my entire office apart, I found the culprit...leftover olives from my lunch...on MONDAY!

I had sampled a mix of olives from the deli olive bar. The ones that didn't go over so well were the ones stuffed with feta, which I chose not to eat. They tasted yucky, and apparently smell even worse after sitting around for a few days. I know that I chucked them into the bin, so I have absolutely NO IDEA how they ended up stuck between my desk and the wall. Makes me wonder what the janitor does in my office after hours.

Rotten olives are now outside in the dumpster and my office is back on it's way to smelling as it should...or at least on it's way back there.

We are...

Yep, that's right...boring! We haven't been up to anything blog worthy at all. It's all work and school for the both of us. In our downtime we eat take out and catch up on the Millionaire Matchmaker if we are lucky.

How is that for quality time together? I know you're all dying to switch places with us, right? I have a week break before Spring quarter starts and Rob has six weeks left in his Masters program. We are trying to fit a vacation in somewhere..we'll see how that goes.

So this is what a heart attack feels like

Last night I had the most vivid, life-like dream, ever. I dreamt that I was part of 'company cutbacks' and found myself without a job.

Now I am a little bit paranoid. Let's hope that this dream doesn't become my reality!

This is how I work from home...

-I have slept in 90 minutes later than normal.
-I have washed and dried 8 loads of laundry.
-I have spent 84 minutes chatting online with Raymundo from HP Tech Support over my stupid laptop issue.
-I have filled 3 garbage bags with clothes to donate to Goodwill.
-I have been on 1 work conference call that lasted 2.5 hours.
-I have painted and repainted my nails 3 times. I just couldn't settle on one color (Lincoln Park After Dark, Polar Bare and finally Suzi Says Da!)
-I have cooked and eaten 4 (okay, 6) pieces of turkey bacon.
-I have watched 2.5 episodes of Grey's Anatomy, Season 3.
-I have cleaned 0 bathrooms and it will probably stay that way...for today at least.
-I have answered 17 work emails and 9 personal emails.

Whew, I think I need a break...I will go into the office tomorrow. :)

Mysterious disappearance

In response to all of the emails I have been receiving lately: No, I have not fallen off the face of the earth. I am still around, but I have lost my mojo...blog mojo that is. Work, school, sick, lazy- you name it, I got it and it's all keeping me from blogging. I am trying to get back on the horse, but it may be gradual. Stay tuned... :)

Sad Friday

I arrived at work this morning to see that my little office mate had gone to the great beyond. So sad. R.I.P. little buddy. :(

Cabin Fever to the extreme

There has been a huge dumping of snow in the Pacific Northwest...this is quite the rarity for us. Because of this Rob and I have been working from home since Thursday. I have been going crazy! There is an entire list of things I need to do and places I need to go before heading home for the holidays. I am scheduled to leave tomorrow night and still have a huge list of things to do. It looks like I may have to venture out onto the icy roads for a little while tomorrow. I mentioned my cabin fever to Rob and he suggested we watch The Shining in order to gain a little perspective. He thinks he's funny!! :)

Here is an upstairs window shot of the whiteness that has taken over our lives. However, I will say that this is a really pretty sight at night though.

The Snooper

As I was browsing the MSN homepage my eye stopped on this picture and the caption next to it

BEST PLACES TO SNOOP ON CO-WORKERS

It just so happens that I have the biggest snoop of a co-worker in my very own office. I will here on out refer to that person as Snoopy. I am intrigued by the site of this photo and decided to see if MSN's version of a snoop has any similarities with my nosy office mate. The name of their article is Best Places to Eavesdrop. As I am reading this, I think that it must have been written by Snoopy, only in his/her amateur days. Some points in this article mirror the exact tactics Snoopy used in his/her early days of employment with us. He/she has since graduated to much more advanced practices...only he/she attempts to disguise his/her nosiness as concern. It's the worst!!

As coincidence would have it, just as I am reading this article Snoopy sneakily, silently enters my office...looking at my computer screen the whole time, which he/she does quite often. My office is a big square with a corner desk, so my back is to the door and my computer screen is open for anyone behind me to see. I usually keep my door half open, so this provides a little bit of privacy. Not that I should need it because I am an incredibly dedicated employee who never uses the internet for anything other than work. This is clearly evident as I am blogging at work. :) Yeah, that is a whole different story. Anyway, I notice Snoopy is there, and swing around in my chair and ask him/her what he/she wants. Snoopy, holding a file I had earlier asked for, has the nerve to comment with a chuckle on the article I was reading. Word for word, this is exactly what Snoopy said to me

"Some people have no sense of others' privacy. Luckily we don't have a problem with that in our office."

I stare back at him/her with a blank look for about five seconds. That is actually a long time to stare with no speaking! I then give a slight roll my eyes, grab the file, curtly thank him/her for the file and swivel back around in my chair. Ugh, I so wish I had an office where the desk faced the door instead of away from it! Oh, and maybe a different co-worker...is that too negative of me??? :)

Ugh, Leslie

Funny thing happened at work this morning. As usual, I was working so hard (funny, I know) when my phone rang. I usually don't answer my own line. For some crazy reason my company thinks that I am so busy that I need someone to answer my phones and do my admin stuff for me. She calls herself my secretary, even though that term is a tad outdated. I will refer to her as Leslie. Anyways, back to the story. So my phone rings, I don't answer it, Leslie does and then bursts into the loudest strings of laughter ever. 'Oh my goodness!! What the crap is she up to now?' is my thought, then Leslie buzzes me to tell me (still very giggly and giddy) that I have a call, without telling me who it is...one of my biggest workplace/'secretary' peeves. So with a trace of annoyance in my voice I thank her and pick up the line. To my delight, it was my brother Chase! Apparently when he called he assumed that I would be the one answer the phone. His response to '___(my company name), this is Leslie.' was 'Well, Good morning Beautiful!' This is what sent Leslie into a giggling mess. Chase just heard a female voice and expected it to be me. When he realized his error he asked Leslie not tell me what he had done, which she of course did as soon as I hung up with him! She then asked to tell me to inform my brother that she is single and looking. Okay, she is 47 and my brother is 20...she is so weird!
